The Second Step of the Hiring Process
Search for Available Jobs in Your Area
Searching for available jobs with the USPS
Once you have completed your Career profile and passed the personal assessment, you are now cleared to apply for jobs. Even though you are cleared to apply for jobs, you cannot become eligible for employment yet. All entry-level positions require applicants to take and pass the postal battery exam. To schedule the exam, you must apply for positions in your area to initiate the invitation to take the exam. We suggest applying for 3 to 4 different positions, this will ensure you receive an invitation. The invitation is sent via email, after receiving it, you will be able to schedule a time and a place to take the actual exam. In the next section, we will explain how to prepare for the exam and why it’s important.
There are several different methods of finding available jobs on the USPS website. Unfortunately, it can get a little frustrating as their search tools are not the most user-friendly. Job Support Services provides a simple job search tool as well as live agent support who can also assist you in the process. We also provide daily job alerts for new positions once they come available, these will be sent to you via email or our mobile app. No matter what, you should apply for as many jobs as possible. The postal service allows you to transition to different positions every 4 to 6 months, so if you get offered your ideal position don’t worry, you can continue to apply for other positions.
Step Three: Take the Postal Battery Exam
Every applicant is required to take either the postal exam 473, 474, 475 or 476. Each exam is specific to the position you are applying too. Taking the Postal Battery Exam is the most important part of the hiring process. A passing score is 70, but in order to receive an invitation to the interview you will need to score in the high 80’s to 90’s. You can only take the exam once every 4 months, so it is important to do well the first time.
